Contraception We provide contraceptive advice and treatments. Dr Swan and Dr Miles also fit intra-uterine contraceptive devices (coils). All Drs and nurses can give advice about emergency contraception. Please ask at the surgery for an urgent appointment or come to the open surgery, (you do not need to tell the receptionist why you need to be seen). Emergency contraception is most effective if it is taken within 24 hrs of unprotected sexual intercourse but can be effective for up to 5 days. Please do not delay contacting us. Emergency contraception can also be given by a pharmacist.

Child Health and Development Checks These are done by the Health Visitors and Nursery Nurse. The Health Visitor runs a clinic. Please ask at reception for the date of the next clinic. Appointments will be sent to you for the child development appointments.

Ante-Natal Clinics We have a small team of midwives. The midwife led ante-natal clinic is on Thursday mornings. They will also care for you after your baby is born. You will be given your own maternity notes to keep, please bring them to hospital and surgery appointments. The Doctors will also see you if necessary.

Post Natal Appointments We will send you an appointment for approximately 6 weeks after the birth. We will also perform the routine 6 week surveillance check on your baby. Please bring the child health record book which you will be given shortly after the birth. If you would like an intrauterine contraceptive device fitted at this appointment, please speak to Dr Swan or Dr Miles to arrange a longer appointment.

Minor Operations Dr Swan and Dr Miles do several minor operation procedures, if you would like advice about a minor operation, please arrange to see them. Dr Noblett does joint and other soft tissue injections.

Well Person Health Checks It is sensible to have a general health check every 5 years once you reach 40 yrs of age. Please book with the practice nurses for these and bring a specimen of urine (bottles can be collected from reception).

Teenagers We welcome teenagers who would like confidential advice about any matter. You might wish to use the web links for services for young people.

Child Vaccinations We follow the national vaccination programme. Appointments will be sent for the vaccination sessions.

Flu Vaccinations We offer these each autumn to everyone over the age of 65. Carers and people with certain medical conditions are also eligible for these. We will give details of the flu vaccination sessions in the autumn. Flu vaccines are given every year.

Pneumonia Vaccines All people over the age of 65 or those who have respiratory problems, diabetes or serious illness are advised to have the pneumonia vaccine. This can be given at any time of year and is normally only given once. Patients who have had their spleen removed might need the vaccination repeating. Please see the nurses for this.

Travel vaccines We can give most travel vaccines and travel advice. Please book a double appointment with a nurse, it helps us if you could let us know your travel plans when you book the appointment so that we can get the information ready for you. We are not able to give Yellow Fever vaccine, but will let you know how to get this if appropriate. Many courses of vaccines need to be started several months before travel so please see us in good time. Some vaccines are funded by the NHS, for others such as yellow fever, tic borne encephalitis and rabies vaccines, the vaccine costs and a private fee will be charged.

Private Certificates and Medical Examinations We can provide private examinations and certificates where appropriate. These are not funded by the NHS, please ask at reception for the current fee.

Cervical Smears We take part in the national programme and requests to attend for a smear will be sent to you by the screening service.

Chlamydia Screening A local screening programme is currently running, using urine specimens. Please ask the doctor or nurse about this.

Mammography We take part in the national programme, women between 50 and 65 are included. The practices are screened every 3 years as a group, appointments will be sent to you. Women older than 65 can arrange a mammogram by telephoning 01946 693181.

Chiropody All people with diabetes will have a chiropody assessment arranged every year. Unfortunately there is no provision for NHS chiropody for patients who do not have diabetes. Age Concern can give a list of chiropodists who are able to provide foot care including toe-nail cutting. 01228 536673.
