GP Earnings statement

All GP practices are required to declare the mean earnings ( e.g. average pay) for GPs working to deliver NHS services to patients at each practice.

The average pay for GPs working in Kirkbride Surgery ( The Croft Surgery) in the last financial year (2017/2018) was £31,176 before tax and National Insurance . This is for 4 part time GPs who worked in the practice for more than six months.

Weight Management

If you are concerned about your weight , did you know that we can refer you to weight management sessions? You do not necessarily need to see a doctor first.

We are able to refer patients to Slimming World for a free 12 week course (registered patients with a BMI of over 28)

Alternatively, we can refer you to the local Chance 2 Change team. The referring GP will need to verify that you are medically fit to participate in a prescribed weight bearing exercise programme.

If you think that you would like some support with losing weight, please contact us. A GP can make a referral after checking your medical notes – if they need to see you first then we will be in touch to arrange an appointment.

Helping us to help you to better health

There are services that patients can refer themselves to without seeing a GP first; this saves you time and avoids unnecessary appointments.
Please ask at reception. We can print out a referral form for you.

Services that you can access in this way, without the need for a GP appointment first include First Step, (talking therapy for adults, suitable for anxiety and mild depression, panic attacks and trauma following an incident) Podiatry, for foot problems and Physiotherapy.

If the practitioner you see believes that you would benefit from more specialist services, then they will contact the appropriate clinician for you.

Carers

Many of our patients care for friends, relatives or neighbours. We can support these carers – if we know about them!

A carer is anyone of any age who cares, unpaid, for a friend or family member who due to illness, disability, a mental health problem or an addiction cannot cope without their support.

Please let us know if you are a carer – we can record this on your notes and make sure you are updated about support and services that might be appropriate to you.

If you are aware of anyone who might be struggling as a carer please speak in confidence to one of the GPs at the surgery who can follow this up.

Local support is offered by West Cumbria Carers; contact https://www.westcumbriacarers.co.uk

Please check our website – we often post news about support sessions available locally from groups such as the Northern Fells Dementia Alliance and Cancer Support services.

We also have a variety of leaflets in the waiting room from support groups – please help yourself or ask if the information you need is not there – we can find out for you!

Spring Drop-In

Saturday 27th April – Kirkbride Village Hall 10am- 12noon

This will be an informal drop-in community event and an opportunity to speak to surgery staff and members of the Patient Participation Group and learn about all the different health and well-being services available locally.

We look forward to seeing you there.

URGENT SURGERY

We are very fortunate that we are able to offer on-the-day ten minute appointments during our urgent surgery between 9 – 10am.

The doctors would like to remind all patients that these appointments are for urgent matters only where there is a clinical need to be seen on the same day.

When you need to see a doctor about a less urgent problem, or for a routine procedure or health check, please book one of our regular fifteen minute appointment slots in advance.

This is to ensure the safety of patients who need to be seen promptly with urgent problems needing immediate medical attention – it is unsafe for these patients to ensure prolonged waits, reduces the possibility of spreading infection, and allows us to deliver a better quality of service to all patients.

We would be able to offer more of the longer routine appointments if fewer patients used the urgent surgery.

Repeat medication – a reminder for patients

Medication items are available for collection 2 working days after ordering – to allow safe dispensing.

Please plan ahead and order in time. If you order on Monday, collection day will be Wednesday etc. In the case of Bank Holidays please order a day earlier. Any orders placed via the internet while the surgery is closed, will not be processed until the surgery’s next working day, and will be ready for collection in accordance with the above. 

If you use our delivery service, please order by midday on a Friday.

There will be no delivery service on 14th March, 11th April or on 30th May. A double delivery will be made the week before.

Violence or abuse towards Practice staff

Our staff come to work to care for others, and it is important for all members of the public and our staff to be treated with courtesy and respect and we ask you to treat our GPs and their staff courteously at all times. Violence against or abuse of practice staff is totally unacceptable.

We take seriously any threatening, abusive or violent behaviour towards any of our staff or patients.

All such incidents will be reported to the Practice Manager and the GP partners. If a patient is violent or verbally abusive, they will be warned to stop their behaviour. If they persist, we may exercise our right to take action to have them removed, immediately if necessary, from our list of patients and in extreme cases, the Police being contacted.

Any form of physical violence or intimidation will NOT be tolerated.
