Newcastle University Medical Students

At The Croft Surgery we are committed to helping train the doctors of the future.

For this reason we are actively involved in both GP training and medical student training.

On 22nd, 23rd and 28th June we will have two medical students shadowing the GPs and nursing staff.

From 3rd – 21st June we will have a 4th year medical student based at the practice.

From September – December 2019 we will have 3rd year and 5th year medical students based at the practice.

The students will spend time shadowing GPs and nurses, but will also see patients in their own clinics.

Student clinic appointments will be slightly longer.

The medical student will consult with the patient first, before one of the GPs will see the patient.

This is a great experience for the medical students and really helps them to develop their consulting skills.

We are very grateful to you for helping in this training process. However, if you do not wish to be seen by one of the medical students then please let Reception know either at the time of booking your appointment, or when you attend your appointment. Reception will then make the GP aware.

Patient Feedback – April 2019

this is what our patients were saying about us last month – this information is gathered from feedback through our online services

Stop Smoking

We know that patients who have an ongoing illness (for example ischaemic heart disease, diabetes, COPD, asthma or kidney problems) are the most at risk from smoking and stand to gain the most health benefits by quitting. Two out of three smokers would like to stop.

Smoking cessation help can be accessed from your local pharmacy. Find your local services by searching here .

Alternatively you may text “pharmacy STOP Home Address Postcode” to 80011

There is an extremely useful website which highlights the benefits of stopping smoking, provides some useful tips to stop smoking, and answers frequently asked questions.

If you would like help from the surgery with quitting then please do not hesitate to raise the subject with your GP or nurse.

Please note that GPs and pharmacies no longer routinely supply nicotine replacement therapy – after two weeks patients must purchase their own supply and self-care. An exception to this is made in the case of pregnant ladies who can obtain a twelve week supply to help them on their way.

Good luck!
