Carers

Many of our patients care for friends, relatives or neighbours. We can support these carers – if we know about them!

A carer is anyone of any age who cares, unpaid, for a friend or family member who due to illness, disability, a mental health problem or an addiction cannot cope without their support.

Please let us know if you are a carer – we can record this on your notes and make sure you are updated about support and services that might be appropriate to you.

If you are aware of anyone who might be struggling as a carer please speak in confidence to one of the GPs at the surgery who can follow this up.

Local support is offered by West Cumbria Carers; contact https://www.westcumbriacarers.co.uk

Please check our website – we often post news about support sessions available locally from groups such as the Northern Fells Dementia Alliance and Cancer Support services.

We also have a variety of leaflets in the waiting room from support groups – please help yourself or ask if the information you need is not there – we can find out for you!
