COVID & FLU VACCINATIONS AUTUMN 2022

Keswick & Solway Primary Care Network

• From mid-September your GP practices will be inviting eligible patients to have both their flu and covid vaccinations at the same time.

• The Joint Committee for Vaccines and Immunisations (JCVI) have advised NHSE that it is safe to have both vaccinations at the same time and that any side effects are minimal.

To ensure that our practice has enough staff to do both the normal day to day workload and also deliver the autumn vaccination programme, we will be co-administering these and vaccinations will be done at our own practice site, NOT at Wigton Hospital.

We will only be vaccinating the following cohorts:

All patients aged 5 years and above who are clinically extremely vulnerable as defined in the green book chapter 14A, Including pregnant women.

All patients and staff in Care/ Residential homes.

All health and social care staff including paid and unpaid carers (important :please notify the practice if you are a carer)

All patients aged 5 years and above who are household contacts of patients who are immunosuppressed as defined in the green book chapter 14A.

All patients aged 65 years and above

**Please note that healthy over 50 year olds will not be eligible for vaccination until 15th Oct. If you fall into this cohort, please check the practice website.

*If you have elderly relatives who are eligible, please note that the practice will be vaccinating patients in care homes and those patients who are housebound. However if you can assist with getting your elderly housebound relative to the practice, we would be very grateful. Doing this reduces the number of visits, thus allowing more time for doctors to see patients for ongoing issues in the practice.

Please check this practice Facebook page and website for details about when the clinics will be held and for queries about when you can have your vaccine (for example if you have recently had COVID).

The practice will be holding separate clinics for children aged 5 – 17 years as they will have the nasal flu vaccine.

If you choose not to have both vaccines at the same time you will be given your flu vaccination, but you will then have to arrange your own COVID booster appointment – which may be at a pharmacy in another town.

Please keep checking the practice website and Facebook page for updates regarding the autumn vaccination programme.

Please avoid contacting us by telephone so that the lines can be kept free for medical emergencies.

Many thanks
